If you decide that $2,500 is too expensive for you, there are plenty of mid range metal detectors that are also good at finding gold. Normally when I go out treasure hunting for the day – I’m looking for gold. If you aren’t a fan of Garrett metal detectors, the Fisher F2 (see more information) is also a great metal detector to get started with and is great at coin shooting. It starts at less than $100 and will allow you to explore the basics of metal detecting.

The PyleSport has ten different levels of discrimination and sensitivity controls. It has a rechargeable battery system and ten different hunting programs built in with multiple frequency detections. Of course a 3D detector can find processed gold, like gold jewelry.

This coin detector also has a high-res iron detector to filter out trash which can be set from 1-40 on the meter. There’s a target scale of 0-99 to indicate what your find is likely to be without the hassle of digging. The AT Pro has automatic or manual settings and a continuous coin depth indicator telling you how far to dig down. It’s a great size that covers plenty of terrains but still alerts you to coins that have become buried over the years, making it one of the best coin metal detectors on the market. In general, the lower the frequency, the deeper you can detect.

This metal detector is compact with a large 10′ waterproof coil which makes it perfect for treasure hunting in all types of terrain. A multi-purpose waterproof metal detector for standard and under water treasure hunting (up to 100 feet/3 meters deep).

ZVT provides both excellent depth and increased sensitivity, making it possible to detect gold nuggets other machines would miss. As a pulse induction detector, the ATX Deepseeker is perfect for both gold prospecting and relic hunting in saltwater. A multi-frequency detector can also be used for general purpose detecting, while PI models are more specialist.

The Bounty Hunter can target items up to 3 feet deep, and a target indicator meter measures signal strength. While the price of this detector could be considered above average, it’s well worth the money when compared to other detectors with similar features.

You can increase the odds though by purchasing a metal detector that is specifically tuned for gold or has good gold hunting capabilities. Now before I get into the detail of treasure hunting for particular items, I thought I would note that there is no one magical «best metal detector», and anyone who tells you otherwise hasn’t got a clue what they are talking about. The discrimination mode of this metal detector can set up to 11 o’clock position, and the latter will disregard all iron metals, meanwhile, when positioned at 12 o’clock, cents will be ignored same as through with coppers that are overlooked when the discrimination is posted at 3 o’clock. Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector has a sensitivity control and a built-in speaker that gives audible notification to the user. These are depth, sensitivity, discrimination, ground balance and type of coil.
